Support for Moldova’s National Climate Change Adaptation Planning Process

About: The Republic of Moldova’s economy, population, and environment are highly vulnerable to climate variability and change. Responding to the risks posed by climate change requires a coordinated and concerted effort on the part of the Government.
As the impacts of climate change increase, so will the consequences of not developing sustainable climate adaptation policies. One of the key focus areas for this joint ADA and UNDP project is on providing support for the National Adaptation Planning process in order to initiate adaptation actions and to integrate climate adaptation into existing development planning strategies and processes.
The foundation for this support to Moldova’s National Climate Change Adaptation Planning Process is assessment of the institutional capacities of seven key sectors – water, agriculture, health, energy, transport, regional development and forestry – in a gender-sensitive context to promote climate resiliency and climate adptation. will conduct institutional capacity assessments and outline the capacity needs to ensure that Moldova has a system and capacities in place for medium- to long term adaptation planning and budgeting with the overall aim to reduce vulnerability of the population and key sectors to the impacts of climate change.
